Writing for ‘clicks’ is KILLING your email marketing game – do this instead!

What would you write today if you were writing for your reader, not the ‘click?’

Hey everyone! Today, I was getting in my head about writing copy. Because I feel the *pressure,* you know?

I want people to “like” what I write.
I want people to buy from it, open it, click it, reply to it, and tell everyone everywhere that I am the best copywriter of all time. 🫠#egomuch???

It’s so silly when I say it out loud, but it’s true.

Then, as I was sitting here S ~ T~ R~ U ~ G ~ G ~ L ~ I ~ N ~ G  to get words on the page, I remembered something.

I used to write children’s books. In fact, I have a few dusty manuscripts about turtles and talking trees in my Google Drive right now if you’re interested. 🫢😅

So, *destined* to be the next Kate DiCamillo, I attended a workshop by a published author who promised to reveal the SECRET to being a successful writer.

Do you know what the secret was?

The SECRET this I’ve-published-more-books-than-you’ve-had-birthdays author shared about being a good writer?

The secret to good writing is to write for your READER.

That’s it.

When we write for our businesses (copywriting is the fancy name for that), we put so much pressure on what that writing has to do for us that we forget who we’re writing for.

Instead of writing for people … we write for ‘likes’, clicks, opens, and sales. We write for hooks and bottoms lines and metrics on spreadsheets.

And then we get FRUSTRATED when our copy doesn’t give us these things.

And then we suck any and all joy out of marketing  ~ the END. lol!

But what if, instead of writing copy to see what you can get, you wrote copy to GIVE something to your reader?

What if you wrote copy to …

Show your reader what’s possible.

Give your reader that little ~zing~ that happens when you read something and “ooohh DANG that was good!”

Make your reader feel less alone because she can see herself in your story.

Inspire your reader to trust herself.

To be creative.

For the joy of it.

To share what you have to say.

Because you believe you can help people with your offer and are not afraid to talk about it. (Or you are afraid – but you’re doing it anyway!)

What would you write today if you were writing for your reader, not the ‘click?’

Write that.💛
