Hey everyone, welcome!
Today’s blog post comes from a question I got in Email Insiders. We were chatting in our Voxer channel before the holidays when one of our members asked:
“I’m a coach, and I need a strategy to create relationships with my email list, build momentum for my paid offers and launches, and make it something I can easily keep up with and enjoy. I need my email strategy to work.”
She went on to say, “There are so many things I could be doing to serve my email list. I could email every single day if I wanted to, but I need a strategy that feels good for me—something simple, rinse-and-repeat, and effective.”
We brainstormed in the Voxer chat and came up with a strategy specifically for coaches. This could work for business coaches, mindset coaches, lifestyle coaches, fitness coaches, parenting coaches—you name it. All of our members were excited about it and said, “Oh my gosh, I’m going to do this starting now!”
I think this strategy would also work well for service providers. In fact, I’m starting to use it with my own email list this month because it’s just that good.
So, let me share it with you!
Part 1: Send One Email Per Week
Start with one email per week. If that feels impossible, try every other week, but I really believe you can send one email weekly. This email should link to your hero content—something like your podcast, blog, or YouTube channel.
I’m a big believer in the traditional content creation method, where you create one “hero” piece of content each week that you own. It’s not a social media post; it’s something like this podcast episode or a blog post.
If you don’t have a hero content piece, make your email the event itself. The email doesn’t need to link anywhere; it just becomes the core piece of your content for the week.
When writing this email, don’t give everything away. Build curiosity. For example, instead of saying, “In today’s podcast episode, I share my three-part system for XYZ, including A, B, and C,” try this:
“This system has made it possible for me to [specific result]. It’s helped my clients achieve [specific results]. I think you’re going to love it because [reason]. Click here to get the system.”
Add a PS or pre-PS section to mention how readers can work with you or join a waitlist. For example:
- “PS: Here are three ways to work with me this month.”
- “PS: The waitlist is open for XYZ offer, and when you join, you’ll get [bonus or benefit].”
Part 2: Create a Signature Weekly Newsletter
Once part one is going well, add a signature weekly newsletter. This is exclusive content written just for your ideal client. For example, my newsletter could be called “The Weekly Copy Advice Column for Coaches.”
Plan your topics at the start of each month. Share about your upcoming newsletter on social media or wherever you promote your work. For example:
- “This week in my newsletter, I’m teaching you how to write a sales page headline. Sign up here to get it!”
This approach makes your newsletter feel exclusive and gives your audience a clear reason to join your list. It also helps you stay consistent and intentional with your content.
Part 3: Add Monthly Client Wins and Ask Me Anything Emails
If parts one and two are going well, add these two emails:
- Client Win or Case Study Email:
Once a month, share a win from one of your clients. It doesn’t have to be a massive transformation—it could be a small but meaningful success. For example:- “This month, a client asked me [question]. Here’s the advice I gave and how it helped them achieve [result].”
Keep a Google Doc or notebook handy to jot down client wins throughout the month. Then, choose one to share with your list and invite them to work with you.
- Ask Me Anything (AMA) Email:
Once a month, ask your readers to reply with questions they have about your niche. Choose one question and answer it for your entire list. You can record a Loom video to share your answer or write it directly in the email.
If you’re not getting many replies at first, pull questions from client interactions or even generate ideas using tools like ChatGPT.
Your Complete Email Strategy
- Start with one weekly email linking to your hero content or making the email itself the hero content.
- Add a weekly signature newsletter that delivers exclusive, targeted content for your ideal client.
- Incorporate monthly client wins and AMA emails to build trust, showcase your expertise, and engage your audience.
That’s it! That’s the email strategy! It is simple, repeatable, and effective. It builds relationships with your list, keeps your audience engaged, and positions you as an expert. Plus, it’s designed to fit into your business without overwhelming you.
